We offer programs for 3rd–12th graders, including two high school boys teams (North & South), one high school girls team open to all Bloomington-area students, three middle school boys teams (U14, U12, U10), and a middle school girls team in partnership with Girls Inc.

Beginners are welcome at every level! Many—if not most—players join with no experience. Our coaches focus on building confidence and growing fundamental skills.

Lacrosse blends elements of basketball, soccer, and hockey, making it an easy and exciting sport for athletes transitioning from those games. Like soccer, players use constant movement, field spacing, and teamwork to advance the ball. From basketball, lacrosse borrows defensive positioning, passing patterns, fast breaks, and quick transitions. Because these skills overlap so well, athletes who have played basketball or soccer often pick up lacrosse quickly and find it a natural next step in their athletic development.

Players must bring their own stick, protective gear, cleats, and mouthguard. Requirements vary for boys and girls; see our Teams page for details provided by each coach.

Boys’ lacrosse allows more physical contact and therefore requires players to wear helmets, shoulder pads, arm pads, gloves, and protective gear. Girls’ lacrosse uses lighter protective equipment—typically goggles and a mouthguard—because the rules limit contact and focus more on stick skills and speed. The sticks used in each game also differ: boys’ sticks have deeper pockets designed for stronger passing, cradling, and shooting, while girls’ sticks have shallower pockets that promote precision and ball control.

Our official season begins after spring break and wraps up around the second week of May. Depending on teams, coaches may offer non-mandatory practices throughout the fall and winter.

Fees vary by team and help cover league dues, field rentals, referees, uniforms, equipment, and certified athletic trainers at all games

Families with multiple players receive a $25-per-player sibling discount, and Board volunteers receive a registration discount (equivalent to the cost of one player’s registration). Cost should not prevent participation. Quarterly payment plans are available at no extra cost. If fees are still a concern, please email the team coaches.

Yes, an Indiana licensed Athletic Trainer is typically available for all home high school and middle school aged boys and girls lacrosse matches through an agreement with IU Health Bloomington/RSMC. The trainer's duties include providing basic first aid, initial injury assessment and treatment, making return-to-play recommendations, and providing referrals for further healthcare. Trainers arrive 30 minutes before the match. While every effort is made to provide coverage, it is not guaranteed. All parents must complete the "Consent for Healthcare Procedures" form to allow the trainer to provide necessary care.
